Paralysis

Paralysis

Paralysis is a very vague term or layman term for weakness in either upper or lower limbs or both. Innumerable reasons may lead to paralysis of the limbs that may require a well chalked out Neurorehab program. So paralysis can result from diseases or injury to the brain like a cerebral stroke (CVA)or traumatic brain injury (TBI), diseases or injury to the spinal cord like a traumatic spinal cord injury or transverse myelitis, diseases or injury beyond the brain and spinal cord like poliomyelitis, Guillan Barre syndrome.

Weakness may happen either in one arm, both arms and legs or both legs or all the four limbs along with inability to control bowel and bladder.

Whatever might be the cause a Rehab Physician should be in charge of the team for chalking out the entire rehab program as a doctor only fully understands the disease, its outcome, its complications and red flag signs.

Neurorehabilitation helps in gaining the strength in the weak muscles, flexibility in the tight muscles, manage several complications like orthostatic hypotension, pressure ulcers, spasticity etc. with the help of medicines, injections like botox, nerve blocks and various therapy programs including our latest addition the robot assisted program.
